What is GFC hair therapy?
PRP vs GFC — which is better?
| Aspect | PRP | GFC |
|---|---|---|
| Source | Your own blood | Your own blood |
| Growth factor concentration | Standard | 6–8× higher |
| Procedure time | 30–45 min | 45–60 min |
| Sessions for visible result | 4–6 | 3–4 |
| Cost per session | ₹3,500–₹4,500 | ₹5,500–₹6,500 |
| Best for | Early thinning, budget-friendly | Active hair loss, faster results |
Both are safe (autologous — from your own body, no rejection risk). At Curls n Crowns we offer both, with a free initial consultation to recommend the right protocol for your hair loss pattern.
Who is a good candidate for PRP/GFC?
- Early-stage hair loss — Norwood 2 or 3 with active thinning, not yet ready for FUE
- Female pattern thinning — diffuse hair loss without bald patches
- Post-transplant maintenance — to protect native hair around the transplanted zone
- Telogen effluvium — stress-induced or post-illness hair shedding
- Post-pregnancy hair loss — once breastfeeding stops
- Diffuse alopecia — when surgery isn’t yet appropriate
- Beard density boost — between or after beard transplant sessions
PRP/GFC cannot regrow hair on completely bald zones (where follicles are dead). For Norwood 5+ or fully bald areas, FUE is the right choice.
The procedure — session-by-session
- Blood draw. 15–30 ml from your arm. Standard pathology-style draw.
- Centrifuge. 8–15 minutes to separate plasma. For GFC, additional concentration steps.
- Scalp prep. Sterile cleansing of the treatment zones.
- Anaesthesia. Optional topical numbing cream (most patients skip — needle is very fine).
- Injection. 30G needle, 0.1 ml per injection point, every 1 cm² across the thinning zone. ~30–80 injection points per session.
- Post-session. Mild redness for 2–4 hours. Avoid hair washing for 24 hours.
Treatment protocol
| Phase | Sessions | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Loading phase | 4–6 sessions | Once per month |
| Maintenance phase | 1 session every quarter | Every 3–4 months |
| Post-transplant maintenance | 3 sessions | Months 1, 3, and 6 after FUE |
Visible results typically appear at session 3–4. Hair feels thicker, shedding reduces, scalp coverage improves.
Cost
| Treatment | Per session | Loading-phase total (4–6 sessions) |
|---|---|---|
| PRP | ₹3,500 – ₹4,500 | ₹14,000 – ₹27,000 |
| GFC | ₹5,500 – ₹6,500 | ₹16,500 – ₹32,500 |
| PRP + Microneedling combo | ₹4,500 – ₹5,500 | ₹18,000 – ₹33,000 |

Frequently asked questions
- Is PRP/GFC safe?
- Yes. Because we use your own blood, there’s no risk of rejection or allergic reaction. Side effects are limited to mild scalp redness for 2–4 hours.
- How long until I see results?
- Visible results typically appear at session 3 or 4 (months 3–4 of monthly treatment). Reduced shedding usually appears earlier (week 4–6).
- Is it painful?
- Minimal. The blood draw is standard pathology. The 30G scalp injections feel like quick pinpricks — most patients describe it as a 2–3/10. Topical numbing is available if you prefer.
- Can PRP/GFC regrow completely bald hair?
- No. PRP/GFC stimulates existing dormant follicles — it can’t bring back follicles that have died (which is what fully bald zones contain). For bald areas, FUE is required.
- How is PRP different from Mesotherapy?
- Both are scalp injections, but Mesotherapy uses synthetic vitamin/peptide cocktails. PRP/GFC use your own growth factors — generally more effective and zero rejection risk.
- Can I do PRP after FUE?
- Yes — and we recommend it. PRP at month 1, 3, and 6 after FUE accelerates new growth and protects native hair. Many patients see thicker overall density when combining.
- Does PRP work for women?
- Yes. PRP is one of the most effective non-surgical treatments for female pattern hair loss and diffuse thinning.
- Can I do PRP while on Minoxidil?
- Yes. They work through different mechanisms and combine well. Most patients on Minoxidil who add PRP report compounding effect.
- How long does the effect last?
- After completing the loading phase (4–6 sessions), maintenance sessions every 3–4 months keep the effect indefinitely. If you stop, hair gradually returns to its baseline state over 6–12 months.
- Are there any contraindications?
- Yes — active scalp infection, blood disorders (low platelets), active cancer, pregnancy/breastfeeding, blood thinners (case-by-case). Pre-procedure consultation screens for these.
- How is the GFC concentration verified?
- We use FDA-approved GFC kits with a documented concentration multiplier. Each batch is processed in your presence so you can verify the protocol.
