Eyebrow Restoration
Sparse, over-plucked, post-trauma or alopecia eyebrow restoration. Custom design for men and women by Dr. Prashant Raktade. 200–600 grafts, single session.
Quick answer
- What: FUE-based transplant of single-hair grafts into the eyebrow zone at acute angles for natural-looking density.
- Grafts: Mild thinning = 150–250 per brow. Full restoration = 250–350 per brow. Bilateral = 300–600 total.
- Cost: ₹10,000–₹35,000 (per case, by complexity, not per graft).
- Time: 2–3 hours, day-care, local anaesthesia, painless.
- Best for: Over-plucking damage, alopecia areata, post-trauma scars, congenital sparseness, gender-affirming care.
What is eyebrow restoration?
Eyebrow restoration is a precision procedure. Eyebrow hair grows almost flat against the skin, in a complex multi-directional pattern (up at the head of the brow, sideways through the body, downward at the tail). Getting these angles right is the difference between a natural-looking restoration and one that looks “stuck on”.
Who needs eyebrow restoration?
- Over-plucked eyebrows — decades of plucking can permanently kill follicles
- Alopecia areata / universalis — autoimmune hair loss including eyebrows
- Post-trauma scarring — burns, cuts, or surgical scars in the brow zone
- Congenital sparseness — naturally light eyebrows since adolescence
- Post-chemotherapy — once treatment ends and patient is in stable remission for 12+ months
- Trichotillomania — hair-pulling disorder, transplant only after the underlying behavioural condition is stable
- Gender-affirming care — feminisation/masculinisation of eyebrow shape
The procedure
- Eyebrow design. Dr. Raktade marks the desired arch, head, body, and tail with a fine pen. You see and approve. The shape considers your facial proportions — golden-ratio measurements for the arch position and tail end.
- Donor harvest. 0.6–0.7 mm FUE punch — small to ensure single-hair grafts. 300–600 grafts harvested.
- Local anaesthesia. Numbing of the eyebrow zone (5–10 minutes).
- Recipient slits. 5–10° angle slits — almost flat against the skin. Angle changes through the brow.
- Implantation. Each single-hair graft placed individually. Direction varies through the brow to match natural growth pattern.
- Post-op. No bandage. Cold compress and post-op kit.
Eyebrow design — golden-ratio mapping
The natural eyebrow has three zones, each with its own thickness and direction:
- Head (medial end, near the nose) — vertical hair growth, slightly thicker
- Body (middle) — sideways growth, mixed densities
- Tail (lateral end, towards temple) — downward-sloping hair, tapers to single hairs
The arch — the highest point of the brow — should align vertically with the lateral edge of your iris when looking forward. The tail should end on a line drawn from your nostril through the outer corner of your eye. Each face is measured individually.
Cost
| Goal | Typical grafts | Indicative cost |
|---|---|---|
| Mild fill (light thinning) | 150–250 per brow | ₹10,000 – ₹18,000 |
| Standard restoration | 250–350 per brow | ₹15,000 – ₹25,000 |
| Full restoration (alopecia) | 350–500 per brow | ₹20,000 – ₹35,000 |
| Scar coverage (single brow) | 100–250 | ₹8,000 – ₹18,000 |
Recovery
- Day 1–2: Tiny crusts visible, mild swelling. Cold compress.
- Day 3–7: Crusts shed. Brow looks pink. No make-up yet.
- Day 7–10: Normal appearance. Concealer/brow pencil OK.
- Month 1–3: Shock-loss phase — transplanted hair sheds. Normal.
- Month 4–6: New growth begins. Trimming weekly required (eyebrow follicles continue to grow at scalp-hair length until they “adapt” — usually within 12 months).
- Month 12: Final result with natural eyebrow length and shape.

Frequently asked questions
- Will the transplanted eyebrows need trimming?
- Yes — for the first 12 months. Scalp-donor follicles grow at scalp-hair length (1 cm/month) until they adapt to the eyebrow zone. After 12 months, growth slows to natural eyebrow rhythm and trimming becomes occasional.
- Will it look natural?
- Yes — when single-hair grafts are placed at correct acute angles (5–10°) in multi-directional pattern. Surgeon experience with facial anatomy is critical here.
- How long do the results last?
- Permanent. The transplanted follicles are DHT-resistant and remain for life.
- Can the procedure be reversed?
- Yes — the transplanted follicles can be punched out using the same FUE punch, leaving microscopic dot-shaped marks. But this is rarely needed when proper design is done upfront.
- Is it painful?
- No. Local anaesthesia. The numbing injection is mild discomfort; the rest of the procedure is painless.
- Can men get eyebrow restoration?
- Absolutely. Male eyebrow restoration is increasingly common — for gym-culture aesthetics, post-trauma, alopecia, or correcting plucking from teenage years.
- How long is the procedure?
- 2–3 hours total — design (30 min), anaesthesia (10 min), donor harvest (45 min), implantation (60–90 min).
- Can I wear make-up afterwards?
- After day 7. Use concealer or brow pencil sparingly. Eyebrow gel and tinting OK from week 3.
- What if I don’t like the result?
- Eyebrow restoration is highly customisable. We do a pre-design photo simulation before committing. After surgery, minor refinements (additional grafts) can be done at month 12 if needed.
- Is it safe for diabetics?
- Yes, with controlled HbA1c (under 7.5). Pre-op review by Dr. Raktade ensures suitability.
